Overview:
The Catalyst may seem like it is lacking in weaponry, but in reality, it just has fewer weapons that are more powerful. It also sacrifices weapons for speed and maneuverability. The cockpit is protected by the plasma cannon, the cannon’s base, and the armored glass.
The Catalyst's main engine is huge. Due to its size it is very likely to overheat. To overcome this problem it is sent through a series of coolants. The fist of which, can be seen protruding from the hood, because this coolant is the natural cool air.
Capabilities:
Because of its disjointed tread design, it can turn corners much sharper and go over rougher terrain than most vehicles and tanks. All the while it stays more level, thus providing the operator with maximum comfort in high stress situations. It also allows the forward firing weapons to stay on-target.
The Catalyst has two completely independent and separate engines. Each one controls its own set of treads and powers different things. One powers the Plasma Cannon, and the other one powers the other four lasers and everything else. If one engine fails, the treads have a built in "elastic" system, which turns the tread back to full forward position, so the Catalyst may still run.
The pulse lasers on the Catalyst are made to fire forward and straight. They can shoot very powerful bolts of energy, but due to the locked position they must rely on the positioning of the Catalyst. The forward-most engine powers all four, and so if it fails the weapons fail as well.
The Plasma cannon is powered by the rear and more armored engine. This engine is significantly larger than the forward engine. It converts almost all of its energy into powering the plasma cannon and shooting it at the fastest rate possible without overheating (six pulses per minute). If fully powered-up, the Plasma weapon is capable of firing on close orbiting vessels or space stations. Because of the unique energy specifics of Plasma, the cannon can actually be set up to lob its shot to achieve extreme range. The rest of the energy is powering the rear treads.
Deployment:
Though these tanks are the first to be seen in the Confederation of Cor’s army, they also seem to be the best. They are used with one or two other Catalysts and a large group of anti-air and anti-infantry armored units. It is often used on the most rugged of terrain. It is also deployed as an artillery piece as well.
